PA YHEC
Hunter Responsibility / Wildlife Identification Challenges

These are two events, HunterResponsibility and Wildlife Identification. In the case of any tie scores for the total YHEC competition, these event scores are used as a tie breaker. So, dust off the books and get some important points.

Here, all the information learned in the Hunter Trapper Education Course is tested. Questions are created from info found in the Pennsylvania Game Commission Hunter-Trapper Education Training Manual. These manuals are updated annually, so it is important to study from the latest manual.

Participants will also be tested on their ability to identify Pennsylvania wildlife ( all PA wildlife! ). The method that the subject wildlife is presented may vary from viewing photographs to mounted animals, furs, or even drawings. Wildlife tracks, scat, signs, and mounted specimens may be used.

There are many photographs of PA Wildlife on the Pennsylvania Game Commission Website, here is a link to the wildlife pages

The PA Game Commission also has many books  available at reasonable cost. They can be found on the PGC Website check the "Outdoor Shop" pages. There are also online versions of the latest Hunter Trapper Education Manual which can be viewed or downloaded.
